It wasn’t long before more gold was discovered, causing people from all over the country to move to Denver in the hopes of striking it rich. William N. Byers was an early city leader who also founded the Rocky Mountain News publication. He helped with the efforts to build a system of railroads that helped greatly increase the growth rate of the city. Denver grew quickly and soon became the capital city of Colorado.
