About Dallas

The area now known as Dallas was claimed by Spain in 1819, and remained under their control until 1821 when it was officially declared to be a part of Mexico. Just 15 years later the Republic of Texas was born after a group of American settlers rebelled against the Mexican government and started their own country. In 1845, the people of Texas accepted an offer of statehood and become a part of the United States.

Dallas was established in 1841 by John Neely Bryan, who originally planned to set up a trading post in the area. He decided to build up a small community instead, but the population grew quickly and Dallas was incorporated as a town by 1856.
